1983 SONG LYRIC CLARIFICATION

Thursday, May 29, 2014

The song Making Love by Air Supply released in 1983 but since I was four, many years went by for me to become one of those who wondered who the song was for.  But even later and knowing it by heart,  I was still too young and naive to judge by the affirmation that this person was ¨making love, out of nothing at all.¨

Today, I am am old enough to judge (actually, I´m not sure).  But as I listen to the tune one more time I felt so related.  It is me dedicating the song and I mean it, every word.  It´s not affection towards a person, it´s for the goddam plastic-credit-thingy we hold dearly.

I know just how to whisper,
and I know just how to cry;
I know just where to find the answers;
and I know just how to lie.
I know just how to fake it,
and I know just how to scheme;
I know just when to face the truth,
and then I know just when to dream.

Just listen and see if you concur.

LET IT GO

I was going for this...

But I couldn´t help it... and neither could
my wanna-be-Angelina leg.

So, I went with it...

Let it go, let it go!

MISSING MY MESS

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

Back from my break and with what seems to be a case of ¨writer´s block¨ (which is a positive diagnosis since it implies I am a ¨writer¨).

This might be a good excuse for my brief absence, but I suspect something else is going on.

Minutes later, eager to write, I stretch my hand over to where my stack of papers should be, but it comes back empty, like one of those plush toy arcade machines that swallow all your change while you maneuver a claw from outside the toy bin to no avail.  Except, the machine is more promising than my empty desk since it has ¨stuff¨ in it.

When this mindless act is over, I can see there is no stack of papers, no post-it notes everywhere, no consumed cups of coffee that provide an olfactory kick of over-sweetened caffeine.  I panic because I cannot find my mess (as if I didn´t put it away myself).

In an untimely manner, existential questions arise making me second guess my previous self assessment telling I am a highly adaptable being.  Am I creature of habit or habitat?

It is imperative that I get out of this sterile environment, yet it is ridiculous to recreate a mess.  No?

THE ART OF TAKING A BREAK

Sunday, May 18, 2014

I wish I could loose track of time, effortlessly ignore my phone, disregard sleep and hunger, and to forget what day tomorrow is.  To carry no guilt, no hurry, no shame, no pride.

All packed up, with curiosity and wonder, off I go to my favorite hiding place: wherever nobody is looking for me.

Not for long though, for soon I´ll be back,
to the thrill of newness and to little voices yelling ¨mamá!!!¨

DRESS CODE CONFUSION

Thursday, May 15, 2014

 Target top. Theory pants. Jimmy Choo clutch. Kenneth J. Lane and Pixie Market necklaces.

There are days when the many commitments one has do not coincide in dress code.  For instance, yesterday, I had to go to a photography class (which should be called: Self Inflicted Torture for the Impatient 101), an upscale boutique launch, an exhibit in the artsy-less-than-casual side of town, and my husband´s softball game.

Well, in the end, what worked the most was to dress for none!  Being slightly over or under dressed for each was better than being completely foreign and lost in translation.

DO YOU LIKE SURPRISES? BEWARE OF THE STIRRUP PANT

Thursday, May 8, 2014

Fotos from Pinterest.

The control freak in me reacts terribly to surprises.  A gesture that should evoke feelings of gratitude, delight, and awe only serves to stupefy me cold and on the spot.  My survival instinct tells me that only I know what´s best for me, therefore, I become suspicious of someone else making the same predicament as an act of love.  I will work on this, making a habit of being spontaneous, for living a less planned-out life is supposed to be healthy for you.  Seriously, no cheating allowed.   Planning spontaneous outbursts counts only as an oxymoron.  So, to relinquish control so that others can interfere, would be a mayor paradigm change.    Besides, people are genuinely interested in extending a pleasurable reaction in me and that is more than enough to elicit a feeling of awe in me.

THE CASE OF OVERALLS

Monday, May 5, 2014

Lets face it.  No more denying the fact that overalls are making a comeback.  I can repeat all the psycho-babble on how to deal with situations that trigger past issues like:  ¨It´s not your fault; you will get through this; talk to me;  and, how did that make you feel?¨  But really, let´s jump in instead.  Forget that the last time these came around you were in a God-awful pre-adolescent morph stage, and the ¨they´re comfortable¨ excuse you pulled off a decade ago to justify wearing them.  Why would anybody think it is comfortable to answer ¨the call of nature¨ in these? Who ever convinced me that these were ideal for pre-carnival festivities, where one had to ¨go¨ completely naked while drunk in a portable bathroom?  Sorry, nasty flashback, never mind.  Now, there are two choices.  Take it or leave it.  If you do decide to try them out, I think the pointy heel does wonders for the look.

CRYSTAL BALL

Thursday, May 1, 2014

Many search buttons have tried to please me in my numerous attempts to gather pieces to satisfy my imagination or virtual shopping bags (where purchases rarely get executed).  I look for pieces of clothing, accessories, art, stuff that seem to be either creeping up in the fashion category or somewhere in my unconscious.  It´s like trying to predict what I think will be trending soon based on stuff I notice showing up in subtle ways.  Sometimes trends show up from the bottom up, as when I detect something in street fashion or art.  Other times, future trends waltz the runways of a high fashion house (best if it´s an obscure label) ahead of their time and before they actually trespass to more commercial avenues.  The search button has not yet answered my questions.  I do get something, but I´m not quite there yet.  I´ll keep looking and follow up on this post to let you know if I´m still curious, if something worthwhile showed up, or if I changed my mind about it entirely.
